Recent files
Accessing recent files
Section titled “Accessing recent files”Click File → Recent Files in the native menu bar to see your recently opened files. Each entry shows the filename and its full path.
Click any entry to reopen that file immediately — no file picker needed.
How many files are saved
Section titled “How many files are saved”Columnar saves the last 10 files you opened. When you open an 11th file, the oldest entry is removed from the list.
If you reopen a file that is already in the recent list, it moves to the top rather than creating a duplicate.
Persistence
Section titled “Persistence”Recent files are saved to disk and persist between app restarts. The list is stored in your OS app data directory:
| Platform | Location |
|---|---|
| Windows | %APPDATA%\com.columnar.app\recent_files.json |
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/com.columnar.app/recent_files.json |
| Linux | ~/.local/share/com.columnar.app/recent_files.json |
Clearing the list
Section titled “Clearing the list”Click File → Recent Files → Clear Recent Files to remove all entries. The submenu will show No recent files until you open another file.
Missing files
Section titled “Missing files”If a file in the recent list has been moved, renamed, or deleted since you last opened it, clicking its entry will show an error toast: Error loading file: Cannot open file: …. The entry remains in the list — it is not automatically removed.
